Competition System in the United States
In the US, high school athletics are organized through the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), with competitions at the state level and regional conferences. Cross-country competitions typically take place in the fall season, while track and field is held in the spring. Schools participate in both regional meets and state championships, where the performances of individual athletes and teams are recognized. This means you compete as an individual athlete but remain part of a team, with awards given for individual achievements as well as team awards across various disciplines and distances. You are, therefore, part of a larger whole.
