Playing sports at a local club abroad
When you go to play sports at a club abroad, you become part of a local team and participate in local or sometimes even national competitions. Depending on your needs, a complete program tailored to your wishes is possible. For instance, a combination with school or studies such as a language school, exchange program, or bachelor’s degree is an option. There are also pathways where the full focus lies on the athletic aspect, for example, during a gap year or gap semester.
You will train several times a week and play matches against other clubs from the region and, in some cases, even across the entire country. Meanwhile, you immerse yourself in local life: you learn the language, get to know the culture, and build a social network both at your club and outside of sports. It is precisely this combination that makes a period at a local, international sports club so valuable. You grow as an athlete through new training methods and playing styles, but you also develop personally by living in a different environment. Getting to know a foreign sports culture is, therefore, an enrichment for every athlete.
