The Field Hockey System in the U.S.
Field hockey at American high schools is part of the extensive school sports program organized at many schools by the various state high school athletic associations. These organizations operate under the national umbrella of the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS). Schools participate in regional leagues within their state, where teams compete against other local high schools.
During the field hockey season, teams typically play two games a week, complemented by several after-school practices. Practices often take place on the school’s athletic fields and are scheduled right after classes. Games are usually played in the afternoon or evening, making it easy to balance sports with your academic schedule. Many leagues conclude with playoffs and championships at the regional or state level.
